Kane Greens reformation meeting

Citizens of Kane County (and friends from nearby and far) met on October 10 to discuss how to build the Green Party in Kane County.

Phil Huckelberry convened a meeting at the public library in Elburn (Illinois) to discuss building a Green Party county organization for Kane County.  Now that the Green Party is established in Illinois, thanks to Rich Whitney and his volunteers and voters, Greens can set up a political organization with many of the advantages already enjoyed by the Democrats and Republicans.

Phil asked attendees to consider becoming Green Party precinct committeepersons for Kane County.  The steps to be elected are:

  1. Get at least 10 signatures on a petition, that petition being for you to be on the primary ballot.  (Best to get double the minimum number of signatures, in case of challenges).  Phil can provide the petition document.
  2. Get the signed petition documents notarized and submit them to the county voting authority.  The deadline is early in November. [?]
  3. Get some votes and win in the Spring primary election.
  4. Win in the general election.  [?]

The DuPage County Green Party has a precinct handbook with some useful info about this process (albeit specific to DuPage County).  The Illinois Green Party website has information and news about precincts as well; search there (search box near upper right) for 'precinct".
